Braithwaite was born and raised in Sunset, Utah. He still lives in the home he grew up in, now with his wife and 3 children. Doug received a Bachelor's of Fine Art from the University of Utah in 1991 and since that time, has enjoyed painting the beauty of his Northern Utah surroundings for over twenty years. He loves painting what his life is like, here and now, and has created, with his work, a "journal" of time-stamps" of his life and what he encounters each day. Collectors admire and immediately recognize his work by the bold brush strokes as they look closely at the painting, then move back, watching the abstraction of the painting turn to realism as the painting becomes almost photographic and the details blend in.
